Christmas week in fireworks business
With annual sales approaching $100 million, Phantom Fireworks profits add up as fast as the pop of a firecracker. The Youngstown, Ohio, based company makes the dragon's share of its sales in the 10 days leading up to the Fourth of July. Stores stay open until 1 a.m., lines form outside the door and uniformed guards keep shoppers in order.

Grey Towers will waive all admission fees today to commemorate Independence Day and bring attention to the national role that Grey Towers and the Pinchot family played in the introduction of natural resource conservation to America. The U.S. Forest Service will also offer a special artifact tour, featuring explanations of the many original items left in the home or loaned by the family after donating the estate to the U.S. Forest Service in 1963. FIREWORKS DISPLAY AT LAKE WALLENPAUPACK
A fireworks display will take place over Lake Wallenpaupack beginning at 9:15 p.m. today. Parking will be available at the high school, and bleachers will be open for spectators at 7 p.m. Spectators may also view fireworks from the dike and by boat on the lake.
AMERICAN FREEDOM FESTIVAL 5K RUN
Pocono Family YMCA will host the run at 9 a.m. today at Dansbury Park, Day Street, East Stroudsburg, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Preregistration may be done at the YMCA. First 100 registrants will receive a free T-shirt. Awards will be given to the top male and female winners. For information, call 570-421-2525. JULY 4TH PARADE
American Legion Post 514 will host a parade 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the parking lot of Pocono Mountain Lake Estates, Milford Road at Mink Pond Road. Parade ends at Newman Post 514 Legion. The event is open to the public. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served in the legion's hall. The parade will feature veterans in uniform, flags, antique cars, floats and community organizations. View the event along the parade route or from the legion's parking lot.
