Single Mom Wins $1000 Scholarship For Esthetician Career
Golden, Colorado, July 1, 2011--Jennifer Moran, a 32-year-old mother of three from Collins, New York, is this year's winner of a $1,000 scholarship from the National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/Distributors & Associations (NCEA), sponsored by Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP). The scholarship will be applied to Moran's tuition at the New York Institute of Esthetics in Williamsville, New York.
The annual award is open to students who are midway through an esthetician training program and have maintained at least 80 percent attendance and 80 percent grade average. In her winning essay, Moran wrote, "I've spent the last two years working multiple jobs to stay afloat ... I took the chance and risked every cent to make myself into the woman I always knew I could be; a woman who is an example to her children on how to go after your dreams and to mean more to society than just a poverty-level statistic."
Moran says the scholarship will allow her to take additional
classes after graduation, and to afford the insurance that is required for her intended career path in medical esthetics. She says esthetics offers the best of everything in a career: "The ability to make a good income, help people feel better with themselves, teach and inform ... Through my education and training, I have felt more confident in my life."
Founded in 2007, ASCP ( www.ascpskincare.com ) is the largest membership organization for skin care professionals. Single-Mother in College: Need help with figuring out how to pay for baby insurance.?Here’s the deal: I am entering my sophomore year in college and expecting a baby in February. I plot on taking a semester off (Winter 2008) and take 12 credits of lessons online during that time. If I take at least 12 credits, I can stay on my parents insurance. But, there is no way my child can go onto my parents insurance.
Currently, my parents can support my basic office visits and such, but when the baby is born, I need to find a way to pay for the baby’s insurance, day care, and other random needs. I am a full-time student so I do not have a job. Finding scholarships for single-mothers would also be a plus.
The father has offered to help pay for my child care and place the baby on his insurance, HOWEVER, I reflect the only wits he is agreeing to do it is so that I do not take him to court. What I would really like is to support this baby COMPLETELY on my own, with a small help from my parents.

I’m rather sorry, I should have been more specific as to why I would want to raise this baby on my own: The father is very emotionally unstable and extremely controlling. I’m worried that if I allow him to help pay for the baby, he will demand to raise the child while I am “growing up” and “getting a real job.” I simply do not want my child nearly someone who is so unstable. I just simply want to research as to what is available to single mothers concerning their child’s insurance. Just researching, that’s all.

The gov’t and the teach will use your FAFSA to calculate what grants and scholarships (don’t have to pay back) and loans (do have to pay back) you’ll qualify for.
