Get inspired at the Lady Lever and see your work at World Museum

WIRRAL artists should head down to the Lady Lever and search for the inspiration that could see their work feature on the walls of Liverpool’s World Museum.

National Museums Liverpool (NML), the operation behind the Port Sunlight space as well as the Mersey Maritime Museum and the Walker Art Gallery, among others, is calling for submissions for its Inspired by... competition.

Now in its fourth year, Inspired by... challenges adults on part-time art courses and members of community art groups to visit a nearby gallery and produce work based on ideas generated by their visit.

A panel of curators, educators and artists will then judge the entries, with the winners’ work part of a special exhibition at the World Museum.

NML communities worker Kenn Taylor said: “This is a great opportunity for people on part-time art courses and members of community art groups to show off their work.

“Whatever their medium and style we’d love to see it.

“When picking the winner we’re looking for originality in how they take inspiration from the participating museums and we can’t wait to see the submitted works.”

Entries can range right across a spectrum of styles and techniques, whether oil painting, jewellery, photography and even multimedia work.

But organisers do encourage groups or individuals interested in taking part to book an outreach session or take part in a guided tour to help find inspiration.

The competition is open to anyone on a part-time art or craft course, or any members of a community art group.

The only condition is that the work submitted must not be in a medium in which the participant has a degree or further qualification.

Entries must be received by August 1, with the winners announced in September.

For further information, to book an outreach session or guided tour, or to download an entry form, visit www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/inspiredby or contact Kenn Taylor on 0151 478 4977, or via email on kenn.taylor@liverpoolmuseums.org.

Last Sunday morning I had the pleasure of photographing Katie & Johnny and their family in Birkenhead Park.    The park is great and offers plenty of photographic opportunities if you follow the circular path around the lake.  We include a pre wedding shoot with in our wedding photography service to all our clients.  It serves two purposes, firstly its a great ice breaker for us all to get to know each other a little better after our initial consultation visit as many couples have never had formal portraits photographed, perhaps since school days.  It really works trust me.  So many couples tell me that the pre wedding shoot helped them feel more relaxed when it came to the wedding day photography.  Which means better pictures, bonus…I was very fortunate on this occasion that Katie & Johnny were very chilled out and it really shows in these great set of images we produced for them.

Secondly it produces your Signature Mount photograph.  This is also offered to all our clients.  You choose your favourite image and we print it and mount it ready for framing.  We display it at your reception and invite all your guests to sign it and leave messages for you, a modern day guest book but one you can have framed and displayed at home to remind you of your special day..

Thanks guys for making the session so enjoyable. I hope your having difficulty picking your favourite :-]]  Which reminds me to tell everyone.  There’s no panic if you do fall in love with all your images, because we will not be charging you for extra ones, you get all your pre wedding shots on presentation disc at high resolution for your own printing along with all your wedding day images after the your special.
