Nonprofit to offer $20000 scholarship
Children’s Restoration Network’s New Hope Scholarship Program was founded in 2005 to give high school seniors living in shelters and group homes the opportunity to attend college or technical school regardless of their GPA.
Typically the New Hope Scholarship is $2,000; sometimes more; sometimes less. New Hope Scholarships have been given out to 39 kids since the launch of the New Hope Scholarship Program in 2005.
Applicants are asked to submit a one-page essay on why they should receive a New Hope Scholarship along with a recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor on their behalf.
All potential New Hope Scholarship recipients have a one-on-one interview as a part of the application process.
The Osiason Educational Foundation and a private donor have issued The New Hope Scholarship $20,000 Challenge to match new donations dollar for dollar. The purpose is to offset the impact of the recent changes to the Georgia Hope Scholarship program as they relate to graduating high school seniors living in metro-Atlanta’s shelters and group homes and our current New Hope Scholarship recipients attending college or technical school.
According to the National Center on Family Homelessness, “less than 25 percent of homeless children graduate from high school.”
It is estimated there are 7,541 homeless high school students in Georgia, and the difference in lifetime earnings with or without a high school diploma is $200,000.
CRN is asking for individuals, companies, foundations, social and civic clubs and churches to accept the challenge to bring “New Hope” to Georgia’s homeless children.
