Two-car drafts dominate Daytona forecasts

Dale Earnhardt Jr. knows what's coming this weekend with the Sprint Cup series back at Daytona International Raceway for the Coke Zero 400.
More two-car drafting.
It defined the Daytona 500 in February and the first visit to Talladega in April. There's not much reason to think things will be any different Saturday night.
"I thought (restrictor-plate racing) was a lottery five years ago; (but) good Lord, it's ridiculous now," Earnhardt said.
Can you tell he's not a fan of teaming up with another car and running nose-to-tail through traffic at 200 mph?
Earnhardt, who started from the pole in the Daytona 500 and pushed Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson to a dramatic victory at Talladega, makes no secret of the fact it's not his favorite style of racing, despite the success he's had on restrictor-plate tracks.
"I don't enjoy the two-car draft because when I push somebody, I can't see around him. And I would like to be in control of my destiny all the time, be in control and be able to win the race," Earnhardt said.
"I was happy to push Jimmie (Johnson) to the win, but in a perfect world, me and him both would rather just be racing our own cars and not have to worry about being obligated to push anyone to the win. You want to drive your own car across the finish line and that's the way it ought to be."
This will be the second Sprint Cup race at Daytona since it was repaved last year. The major difference will be the conditions -- it will be warm and the race will be run in the evening.
How much difference that makes remains to be seen, but Jeff Gordon doesn't expect things to be significantly changed from February.
"I think when we go back to Daytona, it will be about the temperature, the track and whether the grip has gone away at all and whether we can still do that," Gordon said.
"Right now, I'm expecting us to be able to do that, so it's going to be about finding a drafting partner to work with. Me and Mark (Martin) obviously worked well together at Talladega, so we'll have to look at maybe going that same route at Daytona.
